PM Training Curriculum (SLB)

Year: 2022-2023
Company: SLB
Industry: Energy
Role: UX Lead / Training Designer
Challenge
SLB's Norwegian Tech Center had ~30 product managers across six B2B programs, but no standardized approach to product management. Teams operated in silos with inconsistent practices, leading to alignment problems, inefficient processes, and varying product quality. The organization needed systematic capability building that could scale globally.
Approach
Curriculum Design
- Built systematic training covering product vision, roadmapping, stakeholder management, and user-centered practices
- Created reusable frameworks and documentation for ongoing reference
- Designed hands-on workshops using real product challenges from participants' work
Delivery Model
- Structured cohort-based training for knowledge sharing across teams
- Mixed lecture, workshop, and mentoring formats to accommodate different learning styles
- Established peer learning networks that continued post-training
Organizational Integration
- Secured executive sponsorship making training mandatory company-wide
- Created assessment frameworks to measure capability improvement
- Built train-the-trainer model for scaling to other tech centers
Outcome
Company-wide adoption: Training became mandatory across SLB, establishing product management standards organization-wide.
Global rollout: The Norwegian model was adopted across all global tech centers, demonstrating scalability and effectiveness.
Capability transformation: Product managers gained shared language, systematic practices, and improved cross-team collaboration. The training created lasting organizational capability that survived team changes.
